Snow in Alabama – Funny

Southerners have a crazy reaction to the anticipation of snow. We rarely have it, so we are not prepared. Every grocery store sells out of milk and bread. I suppose there are a lot of people who like milk sandwiches. The news today has focused almost entirely on snow. One weather forecaster nailed his forecast in his message designed to help us understand it. On the blue screen behind him was a little story. It began, “Imagine you are driving your grandma to church.” That image hits home in the hearts of all in the Bible Belt. The message further attacks our love for typical Southern food, “There is a plate of biscuits and two gallons of sweet iced tea on the back seat.” Tea has to be sweet and iced. It is a Southern requirement…an unwritten law. The next part puts fear in the heart of our respect for Grandma, “Grandma has on a new dress.” Oh no! Our folks take pride in showing off their fancy Sunday-go-to-meeting clothes…. and she has a pot of gravy in her lap.” That message screams, SERIOUS, to us. Grandma told me to tell ‘yall, “Bless your heart.”

My journey through depression and anxiety has been a long fought battle. I have a Masters Degree in Counseling, but that only helped me to understand clinical language. I needed help and have learned so much about what I could do to help myself.
